Do you drink diet drinks?

Yes. Absolutely, yes. I know there's lots of people out there that hate on diet drinks and say that artificial sweeteners are bad for you. If they aren't bashing artificial sweeteners, they're bashing carbonated water in general.

To be honest, I don't really know if artificial sweeteners and carbonated water is bad for you or not...but I know that being 100+ lbs overweight is definitely bad for you. I am trying to wean myself off of drinking diet drinks as often as I have been, but it is mostly financial. Water is better for you, and, for the most part, free.

So what's my final take on this subject? If you can't give up the sweet drinks without a crutch of some type, then I say drink the diet drinks for now. One less battle to fight short term.

Re: Do you drink diet drinks?

Just switched to Diet Mt. Dew.  I am very surprised that I actually love it and it has immediately cut 1,500 to 2,000 calories out of my daily intake as I drink a lot of soda a day.  I've heard Coke Zero tastes pretty good as well.  I agree with you.  Being overweight is much more dangerous than taking in artificial sweeteners IMHO.  My second drink of choice is water.  Free and is basically as important to the functionality of your body as oil is to a car.  Other than that I drink the occasional sweet tea.  Being in the South, you just have to have one every once in a while.

I don't do the diet thing

I don't do the diet thing very much. I can't handle the fake-sugar aftertaste. I do, however, stay away from anything carbonated or brown now. No Dr Pepper, no sweet tea. At home I drink water during the day and at meal time have either Kool-Aid or lemonade, and always ask for lemonade at restaurants. Yeah, there's still a good bit of sugar, but usually still much less than a Coke. However, I'm not psycho about it. If a restaurant doesn't have lemonade or some other reasonable option, I'll usually get a root beer (no caffeine), and then barringd that will go back to Dr P or tea.

I grew up drinking sweet tea like a fish.  For me it was all or nothing.  I actually Crystal Light quite a bit, and I also Powerade Zero and G2 (low-cal Gatorade).  Of course, water is always the best diet drink in the world.

So, Steven's...I mean, Dr

So, Steven's...I mean, Dr Eggleston's, comment about caffeine on the "Sticks and Stones" episode was really a revelation to me. I've been avoiding caffeine like the plague. I may have to find a way to get my caffeine without "drinking [my] calories". Was this news to anyone else, or am I on my own?
